One crime that people are most afraid of in their area
•Among vehicle owners, 14% of the respondents reported that hijacking was the crime they were most scared of, as opposed to the 4% of the total sample.
•Fears are based on perceived risk, as well as concerns about the impact of the crime: while blacks and coloured were most afraid of murder, Indians feared housebreaking most, and white South Africans feared vehicle hijacking the most. Vehicle ownership is higher amongst white South Africans than any other racial group.
•within farming areas, the three most violent crimes, murder and rape, and assault are most commonly cited as the crimes most scared of.
