•Last 2 important because both are essential for hshld survival
•Many of the above depend on whether people have choices/alternatives or not - probably because most black people don’t have choice of transport, they’re less likely to say crime affects walking:
15% of black respondents said crime prevented them walking to the shops when alone, 17% of coloureds, 34% of whites & 49% of Indians. (also mirrors the race trends on perceps)
•The bulk of those who reported that they would not either use public transport if alone, walk to the shops, walk to work or allow their children to walk to school do not themselves have any form of vehicle, including bicycles.
•WORRYING that many people said crime prevented them from starting own business:
Metro = 27%, urban = 29%, rural = 22%, farming = 21%
•Make point that many would do these things is accompanied by someone they know
