Angus Urquhart holds a bachelors degree in history and politics and a masters degree in international relations from the University of Wales, Swansea. He currently works as a researcher on Saferworld's Arms and Security Programme specialising in small arms proliferation in Southern and Eastern Africa and on international arms export controls. Between April and September 2001 he was seconded to the Institute for Security Studies' Arms Management Programme where he worked as the ISS-Saferworld liaison officer.
Clare Jefferson (nee Hansmann) holds a bachelors degree in social science from the University of Natal, Durban campus, with majors in sociology and geography. Jefferson is currently employed as a senior researcher at SaferAfrica in Pretoria. Her main focus is in the area of quantitative design, computation and analysis of developmental indicators, as well as qualitative participatory research methods. She worked within the ISS's Arms Management Programme from 1999 to 2001. While at the Institute she undertook a number of research projects related to small arms that focused on, amongst others, firearm legislation in South Africa, the role of firearms in South African crime, national border control mechanisms, as well as measuring the indicators of firearm penetration within local communities. She worked from 1995 to 1998 as a project manager at Data Research Africa, a private research organization, where she undertook research into a range of development topics including rural poverty, crime, victimization, sanitation, water and electrification.
