Ted Leggett works as a senior researcher at the ISS’ Crime and Justice Programme. His professional background includes police work, prosecution, and social work. He holds the degrees of Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law and Masters of Social Science in Development Studies from the University of Natal-Durban.

Antoinette Louw works part time for the ISS providing research and publications support to the Crime and Justice Programme. She has been with the ISS since late 1997, first as a senior researcher and then as head of the Crime and Justice Programme. Antoinette has been researching crime, violence and criminal justice in South Africa since 1991. Her work in the policy field has covered victimisation surveys, crime prevention policy and practice, policing, and violence against women. She has a Masters degree in political studies from the University of Natal, Durban.

Martin Schönteich joined the ISS in 1999 as a senior researcher in the Crime and Justice Programme. He is an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa, and has worked as a prosecutor for the Department of Justice. He holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Natal, Durban, and a postgraduate degree in political science from the University of South Africa.

Makubetse Sekhonyane joined the ISS in 2000 as a senior researcher in the Crime and Justice Programme. Prior to joining the ISS, he worked for the Human Rights Committee of South Africa as a researcher focusing on human rights violations and the state’s protection mechanisms. He holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree from the University of Natal, Durban, and completed the Human Rights Advocacy Programme at Columbia University in New York in 1999.
